One of the many positive things about seeing “Jersey Boys” was to learn that Frankie Valli, who will be 93 on May 3, continues to perform several shows a year, pleasing audiences with songs like “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.” Other still popular tunes from the 1960s and The Four Seasons include “Sherry”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like a Man.” Preston Carter played a terrific Frankie Valli in the recent “Jersey Boys” at the Theatre of the Republic in Conway. The entire cast did a great job on “The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons.” A Myrtle Beach native, Carter, 23, has performed in other Theatre of the Republic shows, at Socastee High School, and Six Flags Fiesta, Texas. Manny Platis played Tommy DeVito, in his debut at TOR. He has also performed at North Myrtle Beach High School. The show itself doesn’t include Valli’s ongoing performances as an octogenarian. Valli plays 75 or 80 well-attended concerts every year. One of his 2023 appearances was at record executive Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy gala. Davis was quoted on “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” which Vali did at the gala: It’s second only to Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ “… They can hear us in Sacramento. The musical “Jersey Boys” won a Tony Award in 2006. The Four Seasons were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” was the song with which Valli started (in 1967) his solo career, parallel to The Four Seasons. The group rebounded in the mid-1970s. The Four Seasons had 175 hits.
